How this calculator works
Equity is your share of the pot if the hand were played out every possible way from here. It equals your probability of winning plus your share of any ties.
Whenever the number of possible outcomes is manageable, the calculator enumerates every one of them: on the flop that is 990 turn-and-river combinations; preflop against a known hand it is 1,712,304 boards. The result is exact — no rounding until it is displayed.
Against an unknown hand preflop, or against several unknown hands, exact enumeration would take billions of evaluations, so the calculator runs a Monte Carlo simulation and tells you the number of trials and the standard error. The two methods are never silently swapped.
Read the number, not just the verdict
A 35% equity is not “bad”. Whether it is enough depends on the price you are being offered — that is what the pot odds calculator answers. And on the flop, equity is made of specific cards: the Runout Explorer shows what each one does.
Probabilities describe the long run. In this scenario, over many repetitions, this is how often each outcome occurs. No single hand is promised anything.
