Ace-king is 'dominated': the aces already hold the ace it hopes to pair, so its only real routes are kings, straights and flushes. Even suited, ace-king wins under one time in eight. Offsuit it is worse still.

This is the matchup behind the advice to avoid stacking off with ace-king against a very tight range: when the range is mostly aces and kings, ace-king is either dominated or a small underdog.
